Tired of constant lens battles on Twitter, Benjamin Eckstein decided to compare a wide range of lenses using a Panasonic AF100 in this unscientific lens comparison.
Cameras used in this test:
- Cooke s4 35mm f2.0 (I believe retail is about $18,000)
- Zeiss Super Speed 35mm f1.3 (not in production anymore, I think they are available used for about $5-7k)
- Zeiss CP2 35mm f2.1 ($3900)
- Olympus 14-35 f2.0 ($2299)
- Nikon 17-35 f2.8 ($1699)
- Canon 17-55 f2.8 ($1099)
- Nikon AIS 35mm f1.4 (approx $899, but this was a de-clicked version, which would cost more)
- Sigma 30mm f1.4 ($489)
- Tamron 17-50 f2.8 ($459)
Did you see a big difference between the lenses? Yeah, neither did I… Differences may become more apparent using a different camera and displayed theatrically, but on the web, it’s almost impossible to tell.
